There are almost 5,000 different species of crabs, true crabs around 4500, plus about 500 are hermit crabs (hermit crabs do not have a very hard shell and other animals' old shells for protection of utility). Crabs usually walk sideways (a behavior that gives us the word crab wise). Crabs are mainly active animals with complex behavior patterns.
